We have a three year long and happy relationship with Move! magazine. Every six weeks they provide us with a double page spread on which to feature one of our Heroes – who tells their personal story of living with HIV. Move! reaches upwards of 1.85million readers in South Africa every week. And they are dedicated to tackling the Issue of HIV/AIDS in our country – in a hopeful and optimistic way. Thanks to Thandi Philisane-Gwebe, Siphumele Nene and their dedicated team. Who stand with us in ending the stigma that keeps South Africans dying needlessly. Thank you, too, to Jonathan Harris, CEO and Publisher of Thought 24, Move’s parent company. For believing in our cause from the start.

SAB saw our vision for the UltraMarathon team and fell immediately into stride with us. They supply all of our Runners’ race necessities – covering their per diems, flights, lost wages, running kit and nutritional needs around the marathons. SAB also help us to do our all-important Community Outreach work – by making funding available to travel to local communities, schools and institutions, to spend time with them, give them a bit of a party and leave T-shirts behind as memories. And not only that, SAB support the Positive Heroes Fashion Show with generous donations of Product! Sanele Gaqa, Lauren Woodenberg and Team – we honestly couldn’t do it without you.

South African’s premier hotel chain stepped right up when we asked them to put a roof over our Marathon Team’s head during their big races (and during the fashion show!). Every year Southern Sun provide accommodation to the team in Cape Town, Durban, Pietermaritzburg and Johannesburg. Thanks to Candy Tothill and her Team in Southern Sun’s CSI department, and to the managers and staff of the hotels we stay in for providing big soft beds and hot baths for weary bodies. And doing it with such grace and consummate hospitality.

The Positive Heroes Annual Fashion Show is our major fundraising Event. All the money we make from ticket sales and the auction goes straight to cover our core-costs and key initiatives. Arranging a show like this is a huge undertaking. But the message it sends to Capetonians, and further afield through the media exposure is vital. Not just to the capital, but to the Western Cape as a whole: “Stigma kills people needlessly every day. We need to end it.” The City Of Cape Town Mayor’s office recognized that the show offered a new opportunity to focus on “Living Positively and Fashionably” in the Mother City. And threw his support behind us. Thank you to The Mayor of Cape Town, Alderman de Lille and to Fritz Marx for standing with and supporting us. Thanks too, to Mariana Opperman and her incomparable team; for helping to make our show such a stunning reality.

Anneliese le Breton came to help at our first show in 2009 and stayed. She is our Show Producer, Director and Choreographer. She brings all of our great designers on-board , sources all of our models, backstage crew, dressers, callers and hair and make-up teams. They all work with her, for us – for no pay. She’s that good. Ms le Breton gives her time, her heart and her soul – because she believes in what we do. And she is damn good. Thank-you Anni!

Positive Heroes receives hundreds of emails and letters a month; these are requests for help, information, support and human contact from people either newly diagnosed with HIV or confronting some of the struggles of living with the virus. We answer every request individually. And sometimes that involves one of our Heroes calling, “just for a chat”. Speaking with someone in a similar position can make life or death difference to a person who is feeling isolated and afraid. Cell C understand the importance of communication! They have generously supplied Positive Heroes with 2 Blackberries and 11 Cell C phones equipped with monthly airtime – so that our Heroes can make those calls. Thanks to Mercia Maserumule and Haley Williams at all at Cell C for keeping us all connected.
